INTIMATE TUESDAY: THE SIDE CHICK SYNDROME

         Hi FAM.... How's the last week of the year 2015 treating you? Mine is going a lot better than I thought. Today, I'll be talking about the SIDE CHICK SYNDROME. Everyone at some point must have heard about that phrase. For clarity, I'll give a brief explanation and then start the article proper.

          A side chick is best described as second fiddle. She is an extended part of an intimate relationship where the guy has his first choice (main chick) and then has her as a form of back up for when the main chick isn't around. Most times, the side chick knows she isn't the Guy's top priority but continues to be there for reasons I'll shed more light on. Personally, I don't get why a girl would accept to be second  fiddle but that's just me.. I did a little questionnaire and was able to draw up conclusions based on the answers most people gave.
         A girl is likely to be side chick for the following reasons :

1. INFERIORITY COMPLEX: Everyone has a boy friend and she has to have one to irrespective of what the person is willing to offer.
2. FEAR OF SINGLE HOOD: By single hood, i am referring to not being in a relationship. Some girls cannot just stand the idea of not being in a relationship. They want to be associated with someone and won't mind being second fiddle if it satisfies that urge.
3. MATERIAL BENEFITS: Those that fall into this category are best known as friends with benefits. They aren't in a committed relationship but won't hesitate to go running at the guys beck and call just for what they are going to get in return.
4. IGNORANCE: Some girls genuinely do not know that they are side chicks. They assume they are in a committed relationship with the guy in question not knowing that he has someone else somewhere and is being with them because the person isn't available. This is the case on most long distance relationships.
5. ASSUMPTIONS: Some people think that they can change others. The side chick assumes that if she sticks around long enough, the guy will finally fall in love with her and end his relationship with his main chick.
6. LOW SELF ESTEEM: When a girl has a low self esteem, she tends to accept whatever comes her way especially in commitment issues. She thinks the guy is doing her a favour by showing interest in her hence the fear of confronting him when she finally finds out she's the side chick.
